Upcoming research projects from Michigan State University scientists that will support Michigan fruit industries

June 18, 2024

Michigan State University's fruit research initiatives, geared towards bolstering Michigan's fruit industries, span a range of innovative projects. Among these, Bruno Basso is leading a significant project focusing on regenerative agricultural practices. This project, supported by the MDARD Farm Innovations Grant, involves evaluating the effects of cover crops in croplands and vineyards, and rotational grazing in grasslands on yield, soil health, and greenhouse gas emissions. By integrating field data with crop simulation models, Basso’s team aims to enhance understanding of these practices and support climate-smart decision-making for sustainable agriculture in Michigan. This is part of a broader effort at MSU where scientists, like Basso, are addressing key challenges faced by local fruit growers through applied research and advanced technology.
