Dr. Bruno Basso was prominently recognized this year for his leadership in sustainable agriculture. On November 20th, Dr. Basso was awarded the Hero Award by the G.W. Bird Family Foundation for Environmentally-Sound Agriculture, an honor given annually to one Michigan, one national, and one international agricultural leader whose work advances soil health and water conservation. Celebrated as a true “soil hero,” Basso was singled out for his innovative, science-driven approach to improving soil stewardship, including his use of drones and satellite technology to monitor crop and soil conditions. His recent Soil Science Research Award from the Soil Science Society of America further underscores the creativity, technical skill, and scientific impact that made him an exemplary choice for this year’s Hero Award.
